Rounding out 2021, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson stated that XFL news was around the corner. In 2022, he joined the Manning Cast where he reiterated that news was coming and even mentioned new team names/cities along with broadcast partners.
Since then, a couple months have gone by and fans have been left wondering what the news may be. We’ve seen a few pieces from the league, but not what everyone has been waiting for.
Well, it looks like we may be getting close. XFL co-owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson posted a video on Instagram that once again teases that announcements are coming soon.
You’ve been waiting for a long time, so get ready to break your @teremana open because we have some very big/very cool announcements and reveals coming up
“I gotta tell you all, as a football guy and sports junkie I am so fired up and inspired by the INCREDIBLE XFL ORGANIZATION we have quietly built since acquiring the league in 2020.
From our exciting & ground breaking agreement with the @NFL focusing on INNOVATION & PLAYER DEVELOPMENT as well as other game growing initiatives, to galvanizing an entire XFL organization to create a league of culture, passion, dreams, disruption, innovation and a DNA infused with being the hardest workers in the room.
I think we’re cooking up something very cool and innovative that will grow the game of football and deliver an awesome experience for the fans, the XFL cities, the coaches and to me, the most important thing of all – create an opportunity for the players.

Right off the bat, his message starts off that we’ve been waiting for a long time, also using the opportunity to push his Teremana tequila brand.
Although it still doesn’t give a timeline of when the news will drop, other than “big announcements coming”, we’d expect them to come sooner rather than later.
The new ownership group leaked their return timeline back in November of 2021. We’ve seen the league actively scouting, and their social accounts are slowly coming back to life. Next step is the combine in June, Training Camp in January 2023 and kickoff on Feb 18th.
It feels like something big is right around the corner.
